Our Elders and Deacons
Elder Bill Wicks
Bill Wicks was born in New Brunswick to Pastor Rueben and Bernice Wicks in 1949, and came to
know Christ as Saviour and Lord while living there. As a seven year old, he moved with
his family to British Columbia; the same province in which he graduated from high school on
the Canadian Centennial Year of 1967. In the fall of that year he attended Northwest Baptist
Theological College and graduated from there with a Bachelor of Theology in 1971.
Bill has worked in regular employment, experiencing the stress of shift work while attending
church and has served in five churches in British Columbia. He was a deacon in two and
short termed pastor in three others. He taught in Victoria Christian School for two years
and during that time met his wife, Faye and they were married in 1977.
Bill and Faye have four adult children, three living in Alberta and one in British Columbia.
Two are heavily involved in ministry.
Bill was called to Morinville as the paid elder in 2000, and has served in that position until
September, 2023, when he retired from the paid position, although he remains an elder.
Through all of the joys and trials of life, God's grace has brought us safe thus far, and grace will lead us home.
He will occasionally remind you that one of his favorite hymns is "I Know Whom I Have Believed."
"I know not why God's wondrous grace to me He hath made known.
Nor why unworthy Christ in love redeemed me for His own.
But I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able,
To keep that which I've committed, unto Him against that day."
Elder Jean Claude Petit
Jean Claude and Nadine came to Edmonton from France in January 1970.
Expatriated Roman Catholics, they met the Killick family and soon after
surrendered their life to the Lord Jesus Christ.
Early in 1980, Howard and Marion organized a door-to-door survey to assess Morinville's
acceptance of an evangelical church; the rest is history.
Since then, Jean Claude and others have attached themselves to helping in church functions
and any needed positions while being encouraged to speak from the pulpit by Howard.
Jean Claude served as Deacon in charge of finances for several years and In mid-1995, was called
to the eldership. Jean Claude and Nadine are the parents of Sandrine and Jean Christophe,
grandparents of three girls and a boy and great-grandparents of a girl.
As a Lay elder, Jean Claude was an Architect in the private and public sectors. He retired in 2013.
Elder Matthew Wicks
Matthew has been an elder at Morinville Baptist Church since 2015.
Matthew helps with children's ministry, music, and church administration as well as filling in for
other ministries when needed.
As well as being an elder, Matthew is a husband, father and music teacher.
His hobbies include playing the piano, hiking in the mountains, and ice skating with his daughter.
